Winter in Gujarat is just magical for all wildlife enthusiasts and photographers as it offers a plethora of different wildlife and in the most scenic settings possible. The Little Rann area and Nalsarovar area hosts a huge number of migratory species along with the residents, especially Raptors. Great Rann is the land of rarities where some birds are found which are restricted to very small pockets in India. Overall it makes Gujarat on top of the priority list of thousands of wildlife photographers. In this tour, we will not only click photos but will create photos which will stay with us forever.
Day 1:
Reach Ahmedabad airport/station by 10 am in the morning. After meet and greet we will drive to Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary, a two and a half hours drive from Ahmedabad. Post lunch afternoon birding in and around Nalsarovar.
Day 2:
Morning session in Nalsarovar lake (in boats). Post lunch birding in and around Nalsarovar. Evening transfer to hotel in Patdi (Little Rann of Kutch). Night stay at Patdi.
Targets:
Red-necked Falcon, Namaqua Dove, Common Ringed Plover, Sociable Lapwing, Red- fronted Goose, Dalmatian and Great White Pelican, White-tailed Lapwing, Red-headed, Black-headed, Grey-necked Bunting, Lesser Whitethroat, Demoiselle, Common and Sarus Crane, Moustached Warbler, Baillon’s Crake, Spotted, Little Crake (rarities), White- eyed Buzzard, Indian Fox, Neelgai etc.
***Almost every year various rarities are spotted from this location like Marbled Duck last year.
Day 3-4:
On these two days we will explore different areas of Little Rann like Naya Talaw (the largest waterbody of Little Rann), different Dhanchis (areas with thorny bushes) etc. We will have 4 different safaris in Little Rann. While coming back from the afternoon safaris we will look for nocturnal animals. Night stay in Patdi hotel.
Targets:
Asiatic Wild Ass, Indian Fox, Desert Fox, Grey Mongoose, Stripped Hyena, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Steppe Eagle, Tawny Eagle, Booted Eagle, Greater Spotted Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Laggar Falcon, Montagu’s Harrier, Pallid Harrier, Western Marsh Harrier, Greater Hoopoe Lark (Rarity), Mac-Queen’s Bustard (Rarity), Common Crane, Lesser Famingo, Short-eared Owl, Pallid Scops Owl, Eurasian Griffon, Syke’s Nightjar, Eurasian Sparrowhawk, Indian Thick-Knee and many more.
***This is one of the best pace to shoot Raptors from ground angle and getting sunset shots.
Day 5:
We will start very early for Naakhatrana, a bordering hamlet to Greater Rann of Kutch. GRK is all about some special birds, restricted to small pockets. Afternoon birding at Fort Mahadev area. Night stay at Nakhatrana.
Day 6:
Full day safari at different paces of GRK like Banni grassland, Chari Dhand etc. Night stay at Nakhatrana.
Day 7:
We will start our return journey post breakfast from Nakhatrana. We will reach Ahmedabad in the afternoon.
Targets:
White-naped Tit, Spotted Sandgrouse, Grey Hypocolius, Marshall’s Iora, Orphean’s Warbler, Asian Desert Warbler, Rufous-tailed Lark, Syke’s Lark, Long- billed Pipit, White-browed aka Stolikzka’s Bushchat, Great White Pelican, Persian Wheatear, Cream- coloured Courser, Sociable Lapwing, Indian Nightjar, Desert Cat, Indian Hedgehog etc.
