Desert National Park monsoon Phototour (passage migrants, reptiles, nocturnal animals)

Date: September: 11-16th,2023, 5N 6D

This is the time of the year when a bunch of migratory species comes to western part of India and spends a month or so and migrates further. So, this is the only window to witness those beauties. Along with that it is the mating time for many raptors in DNP like Tawny Eagle, Laggar Falcons etc. So they will be hunting Spiny tailed Lizards and Desert Jirds every now and then. And the desert will be in a very unique shape with puddles here and there and loads of greenery.

Day 1:

Reach Jodhpur station/ airport in the Morning and after meet and transfer to Sam, the closest village to Desert National Park in Jaisalmer region. Sam will be our home for the next 4 nights.

Day 2-4:

Wale up early with the morning cup of tea and leave for morning safari by 6:30 am. Come back at around 11 am. Get some rest. Have lunch. Afternoon safari will commence at 3 pm. This will be our routine for these three days. We will venture out in the night as well for nocturnal creatures like Hedgehog, Reptiles and Scorpions. On one afternoon safari we will go to the sand dunes to witness the wildlife on sand dunes and experience a mesmerizing sunset. Dinner at hotel.

Day 5:

Start very early (by 5 am) and reach Deg Rai mata Oran, a pristine land and a sacred grove, explored by very few like us. This area is famous for Desert Cats and many other birds . We will have a full day tour here. Night at hotel in Jaisalmer.

Day 6:

Pack your bags with heavy heart and card full of photographs and leave for Jodhpur. Tour ends.
 

Targets:

Red tailed Shrike, Red backed Shrike, Rufous tailed Scrub Robin, European Roller, Spotted Flycatcher, Greater Hoopoe Lark, Desert Lark, Laggar Falcon, Tawny Eagle, Montagu’s Harrier, White eyed Buzzard, Egyptian Vulture, Punjab Raven, Delicate Prinia, Wheatears, Indian Courser, Chestnut bellied Sandgrouse, Great Indian Bustrad (we will conciously avoid close encounter other than any opportune moment when the bird comes closer), Chinkara Desert Fox, Desert Hedgehog, Spiny tailed Lizard, Fringe fingered Lizard, Briliant Agama, Saw scaled Viper, Sind Sand Gecko, Awl headed Snake, Afro Asian Sand Snake etc.

Cost: Rs. 36000 + 5% gst
